🎯 Classic Mode – The Complete Guide
Strategy · Tips · Common Mistakes · Example Puzzles · Win Faster
The Classic Mode is the heart of Brawl Mystery – and the best entry point for anyone who wants to master the daily Brawl Stars quiz. This guide covers everything you need to guess any Brawler in the fewest possible attempts.
How does Classic Mode work?
You enter a Brawler's name and instantly get feedback in a comparison table. Each attribute of your guess is compared to the hidden target Brawler:
- Rarity – From Starting through Rare to Ultra Legendary
- Role – Damage Dealer, Tank, Assassin, Support, Marksman, Controller, Artillery
- Range – Short, Medium, Long, Very Long
- Speed – Slow, Normal, Fast, Very Fast
- Health – Very Low to Very High
- Release Year – When the Brawler was added to the game
🟩 Green = Correct! ⬆️ Arrow up = Target Brawler has HIGHER value ⬇️ Arrow down = Target Brawler has LOWER value
Strategy: The binary search approach
The secret to Classic Mode is a binary search strategy: split the search space in half with every guess. Don't guess randomly – think like an algorithm.
Step 1 – Narrow Rarity first
Start with a mid-rarity Brawler, for example Epic. Depending on whether the arrow points up or down, you instantly know: the target is Mythic/Legendary or Starter/Rare/Super Rare. This eliminates roughly half of all Brawlers in one guess.
Step 2 – Combine with Role
Once Rarity is narrowed down, focus on Role. Tanks and Damage Dealers are common – Artillery and Controllers are rarer. A green Role cell dramatically shrinks your options.
Step 3 – Refine with Year and Range
Release Year is often underestimated. Brawlers from 2017–2019 are classic Starters like Shelly, Nita, or Colt. Newer Brawlers (2023+) tend to be Mythic or higher. Combine Year and Range for the final narrowing-down.
💡 Pro Tip: Memorize these 3 best "starter Brawlers" for Classic Mode: Shelly (Starting, 2017), Tara (Mythic, 2018, Controller) and Sandy (Legendary, 2019, Controller). These three cover extremely different value ranges!
Tips for faster wins
- Know the rarity distribution: There's only 1 Starting (Shelly), ~8 Rare, ~10 Super Rare, ~20 Epic, ~25 Mythic, ~15 Legendary, 2 Ultra Legendary
- Use arrows actively: After 2 guesses you should have Rarity and Role strongly narrowed
- Think in groups: All Tanks have Short or Medium Range – a Long Range arrow rules out all Tanks
- Year is linear: Brawlers from 2017–2018 are almost all Rare/Super Rare
- Study the Brawler Library: Knowing all Brawlers by Rarity is the strongest prep you can do
Common mistakes in Classic Mode
- ❌ Misreading arrows: ↑ means the TARGET has a higher value, not your guess
- ❌ Entering the same Brawler twice: Not accepted – wasted time
- ❌ Ignoring individual properties: Use ALL cells, not just Rarity
- ❌ Jumping to rare Brawlers too early: Narrow down to a Rarity group first
- ❌ Guessing randomly: Without a system you waste attempts – always binary search
Example puzzle – step by step
Imagine the hidden Brawler is Mortis (Mythic, Assassin, Short Range, Normal Speed, 2018). Here's how an optimal solution looks:
- Guess 1: Shelly → Rarity ↑, Role ↑, Year ↑ → Mythic or higher, after 2018
- Guess 2: Spike (Legendary, 2017) → Rarity ↓ (target is lower), Year ↑ → Mythic, after 2017
- Guess 3: Gene (Mythic, Support, 2019) → Rarity ✅, Role ↓ → Assassin! Year ↓ → before 2019
- Guess 4: Mortis → ✅ Win in 4 guesses!
🏆 Goal: Aim to solve every Brawler in at most 5 out of 8 attempts. Pros solve most puzzles in 3–4 guesses using consistent binary search.
Quick summary – how to win faster
- Always start with an Epic Brawler in the middle of the year spectrum
- Priority order: Rarity → Role → Range → Year
- Combine 2–3 green cells before committing to a final guess
- Memorize the Rarity distribution (30 min investment = permanent improvement)
- Play daily – after 2 weeks you'll recognize patterns automatically
